HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — Facing Hunger Foodbank is once again giving back to the Jewel City in celebration of Earth Day.
Volunteers hit the streets with grabbers and plastic bags in hand, picking up litter along 7th Avenue in Huntington on Wednesday morning.
The rain forced the non-profit’s morning team to cut their efforts short, but when the sun came out, representatives say the afternoon team got to work.
Facing Hunger’s Community Relations Officer Bettina Hazlett says keeping their surrounding environment clean is just another way they can give back to the community.
“We’ve got our grabbers, our trash bags, and everything that we need, our gloves, in order to be safe. We talked about it a couple years ago in 2024, how we could also be out in the community and volunteering in the community as well. And so, Earth Day just seemed like the perfect opportunity to help clean up 7th Avenue,” Hazlett says.
The non-profit says they are also planning other community-driven events to be announced at a later date.
