Wheels turn inside Marshall’s ceramics studio in preparation for Empty Bowls fundraiser

An annual collaboration between Marshall University and the Facing Hunger Foodbank will address food scarcity in the Tri-State area.

Art and design students have started the process of handcrafting about 1,000 bowls that will be sold to the public, raising awareness and generating funds to fight hunger.

Wheels began turning inside Marshall’s ceramics studio this week as mountains of clay took shape into vessels that will be glazed and fired for the 23rd annual Empty Bowls event.

Community members may purchase a bowl at Pullman Square in Huntington on May 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Proceeds will go toward Facing Hunger Foodbank which serves 17 counties in West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.
