Funding secured to renovate building for new food distribution center

U.S. Sen. Jim Justice visited the Facing Hunger Foodbank in Huntington on Wednesday.

He announced $1.1 million in funding for a food distribution center in Mingo County.

The funds are part of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives passage of the appropriations minibus to fund the federal government.

The project will be a renovation of a previously vacant property being repurposed into a regional hub for sustainable food production and workplace development.

The hope is the center will be open sometime this year.
