Facing Hunger acts as a distribution hub for our 220 partner agencies. We purchase, solicit and collect donated food that we then distribute to food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, school feeding programs, mobile pantries, etc. Our partner agencies distribute the food we provide them with to hungry people in our service region.
Food and grocery items are donated and/or received from national and local food companies, government agenices, food drives, special purchases and from Feeding America progrms.
Much of the donated food comes from out of state and is delivered to the foodbank. However, many local food donation programs require the foodbank to pick up donations and return them to their facility where it is properly stored in temperature-controlled warehouses, freezers, and coolers. Foodbanks must maintain trucks and staff to transport the food to the foodbank.
Once the foodbank recieves a shipment, it inspects for quality, sorts and repacks the items for distribution to member agencies throughout its service area.
Local food pantires, soup kitchens, shelters, school programs and backpack programs receive food from the foodbank and then give it to those in need.
